How Soundboard Routing Works

Soundboard clips use a separate playback path from live microphone conversion. A clip plays to your system output so you can hear it and, when a virtual cable is available, to that cable so Discord, games, or recording apps can hear it too.
- The clip is not transformed by the active AI voice.
- The clip is not processed through the active Voice Lab or DSP chain.
- Live microphone conversion can continue while a sound plays.
- Without a detected virtual cable, Echo still tries to play the clip locally.
Play and Stop Sounds
- Click a sound tile to play it.
- Use Stop All to stop currently playing sounds.
- Use Random to play a random result from the current board and search filter.
- Use the small settings action on a tile to edit that sound instead of playing it.
Add Sounds
Import
Adds one or more local WAV, MP3, OGG, or FLAC files to the Soundboard library.
Community meme pack
Downloads Echo's included starter sounds so new users can test the feature quickly.
Refresh
Rescans the local Soundboard library after files or metadata have changed.
Organize the Library
- 1
Create a board
Use boards for groups such as reactions, game moments, stream alerts, or a specific character.
- 2
Move sounds into the board
Open a sound's edit modal and choose its board.
- 3
Add useful tags
Tags make larger libraries easier to search without forcing every clip into a separate board.
- 4
Use search and board filters together
The visible results also control which clips Random can choose.
Edit a Sound

Name
Changes the label shown on the sound tile.
Board
Moves the sound into another board tab.
Tags
Adds search terms that describe the clip.
Hotkey
Stores a local keyboard shortcut for triggering the clip. Press Escape while editing to clear it.
Choose Safe Hotkeys
- Avoid keys you use constantly for movement, push-to-talk, typing, or game actions.
- Test the shortcut while the game or streaming software you use is open.
- Keep an easy Stop All action available before using several long sounds.
- Hotkey assignments are stored locally on the computer.
Prevent Loud or Distorted Clips
- 1
Test locally first
Play a new clip at a safe listening level before using it in a call or stream.
- 2
Compare it with your voice
A clip that is much louder than normal speech can trigger compression or clipping in Discord and streaming software.
- 3
Check downstream processing
Automatic gain and noise suppression can react differently to music, effects, and short impact sounds than to speech.
If a Sound Does Not Work
| Problem | What to Check |
|---|---|
| The tile does nothing | Confirm the file still exists, then use Refresh or re-import it. |
| You hear it, but other apps do not | Check virtual-cable detection and the receiving app's microphone selection. |
| Others hear it, but you do not | Check the system default output and its volume. |
| A hotkey does not fire | Reassign it, check for conflicts, and test with the target app open. |
| Search finds nothing | Clear the search text and confirm the expected board is selected. |
| The clip is distorted | Test the source file directly and reduce downstream gain or processing. |
